This is one of my first photographs I did in Romania. In 2010, I was visiting monasteries from the county of Iasi, the capital of Moldova. We arrived in Hlincea through a deserted road in the woods, only covered with dead leaves as it was in autumn. This was a very small and poor village, with just a farm, the monastery and a barking dog on the road. As we visited the church, we understood that all was ready for a funeral. We got out the church at the moment the procession was coming in. They were burying a child.
life and death

There is nothing sadder than burying a child. 😦
A lovely photo and the story adds much depth to it. Thank you for sharing it!

Oh, how sad… too bad you arrived there in such a moment! 😦 The church is nice though. These Orthodox churches are so ornamented.

It’s an ancient monastery near Iasi, really beautiful.

I wonder, what is the status of faith in these Eastern Orthodox locales…so amazing they have survived such a tumultuous history.
Thanks for sharing this.

It really matters a lot ! Sundays, you can see queues in the street to enter the church. Churches are crowded.
Thanks a lot !
